I’ve been waiting forever for a collection of just classic Road Runner cartoons, and this “season” hits the spot. There are a few DVD collections you can get that either mix them in with other classic Looney Tunes shorts or try to pass off the weaker later episodes for the real classics. These are Chuck Jones at his prime (with one solid Friz Freleng in there for good measure). All the bizarre, surreal, and gleefully repetitive gags that have since become cartoon hallmarks. Great collection!

Unfortunately The vhs tape broke and I had to order another one. I think it was a malfunction of my player not the product. Schaefer The best thing about Saturday mornings used to be getting to watch a couple of hours of Bugs Bunny/Road Runner cartoons. Fortunately, this helps fill the gap which, as far as I am concerned, is still missing. (My nieces and nephews don’t know what they are missing)

This collection is 90% excellent–my favorite gags are all there. I am knocking one star off, though, for the final set of cartoons, which were obviously created in the last, budget-deprived days of the Warner Bros. animation studio. The touted race between the Road Runner and Speedy Gonzales was abysmal, using almost nothing but recycled footage from earlier cartoons and should have been left to languish in the film vault. Aside from that, though, I am very pleased with it.

Pretty interesting seeing the gags stacked up back to back. Having seen it through the years my general thought along with everyone was that it’s the same damn tricks and trials over and over, but it’s another thing to see the formula spelled out one after another
